Protecting wetlands together

Waterlands

Wetlands are nature's secret weapon against climate change. WWT wanted to lead that national conversation. The challenge was reaching beyond the audience they could already count on. They needed a podcast that would bring the story of wetlands to a younger, more diverse crowd, and inspire people to take direct action. Not a lecture about landscapes. An invitation into them.

We hear the riverbanks, the crashing tides, marshes filled with birdsong, the frog chorus and the underwater life of the humble pond. Then we speak to the people whose lives have been shaped by these places. Recorded on location at WWT's wetland sites around the UK, the series pairs those soundscapes with stories of what wetlands can do, for wildlife, for the climate, and for us. It's a series about why these places matter, told from inside them.

Beyond the usual audience
WWT's ambition was to inspire one million people to take direct action for wetlands. That meant reaching people who'd never visited a wetland centre and might never plan to. We started with a discovery workshop to develop a series that could connect far beyond WWT's existing reach, built around a simple idea: don't tell people wetlands are extraordinary. Let them hear it.
A launch that made the news
To reach new audiences, this project required a carefully pitched PR campaign. We consulted on how to get the most from every bit of promotional activity for the podcast launch. The show hit #2 in the UK nature charts after just two episodes, with editorial picks secured on Apple Podcasts and Castbox. The press followed: The Guardian, The Times, The Metro, Country & Town House and BBC Radio Somerset all featured it, and BBC Radio 4 invited Kwesia, whose story features in episode one, onto Saturday Live.

Winning shows don’t wait

The best brands aren’t waiting for podcasting to settle down. They’re building shows that compound — episode after episode, season after season. If that sounds like the company you want to keep, let’s talk.
